The Grosse Cloche is a medieval gateway marked by two massive circular stone towers that reach forty meters into the sky. It stands on the ancient Rue Saint-James, once the path taken by pilgrims traveling toward Santiago de Compostela. This structure served as a defensive gate and the belfry for the town hall, its central bell chamber housing the namesake bell cast in seventeen seventy-five. Weighing nearly eight thousand kilograms, the bell bears the name Armande-Louise and remains a fixture of the city's coat of arms.
