Square Vinet is distinguished by a four hundred square meter vertical garden that stretches one hundred meters along the walls of the plaza. This wall of greenery was created in two thousand five by botanist Patrick Blanc, using a variety of plants, mosses, and ferns that contrast against the surrounding limestone architecture. The square itself originated in the nineteen seventies after a row of derelict buildings at the corner of Rue Cancéra and Rue Vinet was demolished.
