The Mémorial des Déportations stands at the foot of Fort Saint-Jean, housed within a windowless concrete blockhouse built by the German military in nineteen forty-three. This structure was originally part of a network of coastal defenses meant to prevent an Allied landing in Provence. Today, the site functions as a place of memory, focused on the repression and persecution that Marseille endured under German occupation during the Second World War.
