The Veli Bej Bath is marked by a central stone dome that rises above the surrounding hospital complex on the Buda side of the city. Built between fifteen seventy-four and fifteen seventy-five by the Ottoman governor Sokollu Mustafa Pasha, this structure is one of the oldest thermal baths in Budapest. The facility centers on a large octagonal pool that has remained in its original location for nearly five centuries, even surviving the recapture of Buda in sixteen eighty-six.
