Phönix-ház

The Phönix-ház is an entire city block in the Újlipótváros neighborhood, identifiable by the distinct stone birds that perch above its two main entrances on the Pannónia and Tátra Street facades. Built between nineteen twenty-eight and nineteen twenty-nine, the complex was an investment by the Phönix Life Insurance Company and the Turul Hungarian National Insurance Company. The insurance firms used their capital to create a massive, self-contained residential block featuring eight separate staircases and a central garden that has remained a single, shared park for nearly a century.
