Chandni Chowk

Chandni Chowk is a dense, bustling commercial corridor in Old Delhi defined by its narrow, labyrinthine lanes and an enduring history that dates back to sixteen fifty. It was established by Princess Jahanara Begum, the daughter of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, as a grand boulevard stretching from the Lahori Gate of the Red Fort to the Fatehpuri Masjid. The name translates to Moonlight Square, a reference to a central pool that once stood here, designed to catch and reflect the moonlight on the water.
