Hibiya Park

Hibiya Park is defined by the massive, gnarled branches of a five-hundred-year-old ginkgo tree standing near the entrance. Known as the Kubi-kake Ginkgo, this tree earned its name when the park’s landscape designer, Seiroku Honda, fought to save it during construction in nineteen hundred and one. He famously declared he would risk his head—or job—to ensure the tree was moved rather than cut down to make way for the road.
