Hibiya Okuroji

Hibiya Okuroji is a three-hundred-meter-long commercial corridor tucked into the space beneath the railway viaduct connecting Yurakucho Station and Shimbashi Station. The passage is defined by its exposed red brick arches, which were constructed in nineteen ten as part of Japan’s first elevated railway tracks. These arches were built by hand by Japanese craftsmen following the design principles of viaducts found in Berlin, and they have supported constant train traffic for more than a century.
