Omotesando Station is marked by the convergence of the Tokyo Metro Ginza, Chiyoda, and Hanzomon lines beneath the intersection of Omotesando Avenue and Aoyama Street. It is the only station in the Tokyo Metro system to have been renamed twice. Originally opened in nineteen thirty-eight as Aoyama-Rokuchome Station, it was later renamed Jingumae Station before finally adopting its current name in nineteen seventy-eight to reflect the grand approach to the nearby Meiji Shrine.
