The BAPE STORE Harajuku is a landmark of global streetwear, defined by the iconic ape head logo and the camouflage patterns that originated here in the early nineteen nineties. Founded by Tomoaki Nagao, known as Nigo, the brand began in this district as a small-scale operation born from a love of hip-hop and pop culture. Nigo drew the name from the nineteen sixty-eight film Planet of the Apes and a satirical Japanese idiom regarding complacent youth, turning those themes into a symbol of status and cultural innovation.
