Wat Manorom sits outside the former walls of Luang Prabang, distinguished by a massive congregation hall built between nineteen seventy-one and nineteen seventy-two. It houses a six-meter-tall bronze Buddha statue, often cited as the oldest colossal bronze image in the city. The temple grounds, which now include monastic quarters and a primary school, have hosted a religious site since at least the late fourteenth century, though the original structures were lost to repeated invasions, including the destruction of the temple by a Chinese army in eighteen eighty-seven.
