Saffron Coffee occupies a two-story building along the Mekong River, distinguishable by its open-air seating on wooden verandas that look directly out over the water. Established in two thousand six, the company began as a way to provide an alternative livelihood for mountain-dwelling tribes in northern Laos who had previously relied on opium poppy cultivation.
