The Royal Palace, known locally as Haw Kham, is defined by its architectural blend of French Beaux-Arts symmetry and traditional Lao rooflines. Built between nineteen oh four and nineteen oh nine during the French colonial era, it served as the residence for King Sisavang Vong and his family. Its location was specifically chosen so that official visitors arriving by boat on the Mekong River could disembark and reach the palace directly for formal receptions.
