Wat Nong Sikhounmuang is distinguished by its large ordination hall, or sim, which features ornate red and gold filigree pilasters and brackets shaped like fish and nagas. The temple was founded in seventeen forty by the wife of the man who established the nearby Wat Sene, and it sits on land once occupied by a pond that local legend identified as the eye of a giant serpent.
