The Presidencia Municipal, or City Hall, stands in the center of Puerto Vallarta as a whitewashed building with a traditional red-tiled roof. While it functions as the seat of local government, the interior houses a sixty-four-square-meter mural by the renowned local artist Manuel Lepe Macedo. Lepe, who was named Mexico's Artist by President Luis Echeverría, gained international acclaim for his naive style, which frequently depicted the town's children and coastal surroundings.
