Museo Casa Montejo

The facade of Museo Casa Montejo is marked by an intricate stone doorway carved in the Plateresque style, featuring armored soldiers standing above the heads of figures that represent the power of the family who built it. Constructed between fifteen forty-two and fifteen forty-nine, the house was the residence of Francisco de Montejo, the Spanish conquistador who founded Mérida. It occupies a prime spot on the southern side of the city's main square, the Plaza Grande, where it has stood since the earliest days of the colonial city.
