The Monument to the Montejo features bronze, life-sized statues of the Spanish conquistador Francisco de Montejo and his son, also named Francisco de Montejo. They stand upon a large stone pedestal, dressed in the armor and attire of sixteenth-century soldiers, with the younger man holding a rapier and helmet. The monument is situated at the Remate del Paseo de Montejo, a traffic circle that marks the southern end of the city’s most prominent avenue.
