Parque de Santa Lucía

The Parque de Santa Lucía is defined by the series of broad stone arches that frame two sides of the square. Inaugurated as a public park in February eighteen seventy-eight, this space occupies a location that dates back to the founding of Mérida in fifteen forty-two. For over two centuries, the area served as the city’s first general cemetery, with the atrium of the nearby church acting as a burial ground until eighteen twenty-one.
