Quinta da Regaleira is distinguished by a Neo-Manueline palace bristling with pinnacles and stone carvings of fantastical winged animals. This four-hectare estate, located on a hillside in Sintra, was the private project of António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro, a wealthy Portuguese businessman who acquired the land in eighteen ninety-two. Between nineteen oh four and nineteen ten, he collaborated with Italian architect and set designer Luigi Manini to transform the property into a deeply symbolic landscape.
