The Valverde Sintra Palácio de Seteais is identifiable by a striking neoclassical triumphal arch that connects its two residential wings. Originally constructed in seventeen eighty-three as the Quinta da Alegria for Daniel Gildemeester, a Dutch consul, the estate was designed as a harmonious retreat. Gildemeester was known for his dedication to music, reportedly keeping a resident violinist to ensure melodies filled the palace halls at all hours.
