Torre do Relógio

The Torre do Relógio in the historic center of Sintra is a steep, stone masonry tower topped by a curved dome, a spindle, and a weather vane. Its history is tied to the town’s former jail, which once sat directly attached to the structure. Because of this connection, the tower served as more than just a timepiece; officials used its bells to alert the public in emergencies or to sound an alarm if a prisoner escaped.
