The Hijaz House in Al-Balad is a centuries-old structure defined by its traditional Hijazi architecture, most notably the intricate, ornate wooden balconies known as rawashin. These enclosed, latticed windows extend from the white facade, designed to allow residents to view the street below while maintaining privacy and catching the sea breeze. Constructed from coral stone harvested from the nearby Red Sea, the house is a surviving example of the building techniques used in Jeddah long before the city expanded into the modern metropolis seen today.
