The Església de Sant Francesc is defined by its massive, smooth sandstone façade, which holds a wide rose window and a highly ornate baroque portal. Founded in twelve eighty-one by Franciscan monks under the reign of King Jaume the Second, the structure remains one of the most prominent religious sites in Palma. Its appearance today reflects several centuries of labor, as the original Gothic construction was altered following a lightning strike in fifteen eighty that damaged the exterior. The subsequent reconstruction, completed around seventeen hundred, introduced the intricate baroque stonework that contrasts with the simple, high-vaulted Gothic interior.
