Royal Palace of La Almudaina

The Royal Palace of La Almudaina is distinguished by the weathercock atop its highest tower, the Torre de l’Àngel, which features a bronze figure of the Archangel Gabriel spinning in the Mediterranean breeze. Originally constructed as a Moorish alcázar in the tenth century, the palace served as the administrative and military citadel for the Muslim governors of Mallorca. Its name, Almudaina, is derived from the Arabic word for fortress, reflecting its long history as a defensive bastion overlooking the bay.
