Plaça de Cort

The Plaça de Cort is defined by a colossal, gnarled olive tree standing at its center, its twisted trunk and massive, weathered boughs drawing eyes away from the surrounding stone architecture. This square takes its name from the medieval "Cort," or royal and judicial court, which once gathered here to preside over the city. Today, it serves as the municipal heart of Palma, anchored by the seventeenth-century Town Hall with its ornate, deep-set wooden eaves and the rhythmic tolling of a clock known locally as En Figuera.
