Sa Llotja

Sa Llotja is defined by its four octagonal corner towers and a series of smaller turrets that give the sandstone structure the appearance of a fortress. Built between fourteen twenty-six and fourteen fifty-two, this masterpiece of civic Gothic architecture was designed by the local architect Guillem Sagrera. It was commissioned by the city's merchants’ guild to serve as their headquarters and a maritime trade exchange, positioned directly along the old defensive walls where the sea once met the city.
