Monastery and Interlaken Castle

The Interlaken Castle and its adjacent church stand on the site of a twelfth-century Augustinian monastery, marked by a bell tower that has survived from the early fourteenth century. Founded around eleven thirty-three by Baron Seliger of Oberhofen, the monastery once functioned as the largest landowner in the Bernese Oberland, controlling regional trade and bridges.
