Kraftwerke Mühle

The Wasserkraftwerk Mühleberg is a hydroelectric station identifiable by the massive, thirty-five meter high wall that dams the Aare river to create the twelve-kilometer-long Wohlensee. It began operations in nineteen twenty, a project spearheaded by BKW director Eduard Will and designed by the Polish civil engineer Gabriel Narutowicz. At the time of its completion, the plant was considered one of the most modern facilities in Europe, conceived during a period when the First World War had severely limited the availability of coal and oil.
