Hinterdorfstrasse is defined by a cluster of traditional wooden buildings that date from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries. These structures, built from dark, resin-rich larch wood, stand as the oldest surviving remnants of Zermatt's agricultural past, long before the village became a resort town for mountaineers and skiers.
