St. Peter’s Church, often called the English Church, is a small, whitewashed structure sitting on a rocky ledge above the village streets. It was built during the nineteenth century to serve the growing number of British climbers and tourists who arrived in Zermatt during the early golden age of alpinism. Because the local tradition was entirely Catholic, these seasonal visitors requested their own place for Anglican worship.
