Monte Rosa Hotel

The Monte Rosa Hotel is marked by a distinctive façade with red-shuttered windows facing Zermatt’s main street. As the oldest hotel in the village, it grew from a modest wooden chalet originally opened in eighteen thirty-nine by the local doctor, Josef Lauber. In eighteen fifty-five, the hotelier Alexander Seiler acquired the building and transformed it into the Monte Rosa, establishing the site as the primary destination for mountaineers arriving to climb the surrounding peaks.
