Old Customs House

The Old Customs House on Mizingani Road is recognizable by its three-story cast iron balcony and pale, fresco-green walls. Built between eighteen fifty-six and eighteen seventy as a residence for the Busaidi family, the structure occupies a prime position overlooking the seafront. Its exterior features intricately carved wooden doors adorned with motifs of fish, lotus blossoms, and anchor chains. In eighteen ninety-six, the building gained political significance when Hamoud bin Mohammed was proclaimed Sultan while inside the home.
