Saint Joseph's Cathedral

Saint Joseph's Cathedral is identifiable by its twin spires, which rise above the dense, narrow streets of Stone Town and remain visible from the ocean. Built between eighteen ninety-three and eighteen ninety-eight, this Roman Catholic cathedral was designed by the same French architect responsible for the cathedral in Marseille. Its construction was led by French missionaries and local converts who had established a mission in the area decades earlier.
