Fort Fincastle sits atop the highest point on New Providence Island, recognizable by its distinct, unusual shape that mimics a paddle wheel steamer. Constructed from cut limestone in seventeen ninety-three, the fortification was commissioned by Lord Dunmore, the British colonial governor who named the structure after his own title, the Viscount of Fincastle.
