St. John's Native Baptist Cathedral

St. John's Native Baptist Cathedral on Meeting Street is defined by its two centuries of presence in Nassau. Founded in eighteen twenty-five by Prince Williams, a man who had escaped slavery in South Carolina, the church stands as a testament to the early Baptist movement in the Bahamas. Williams, a carpenter by trade, had previously helped establish the nearby Bethel Baptist Church, but after a dispute over his personal life prevented him from serving as its pastor, he started this congregation just a short distance away.
