The French Consulate General in Istanbul occupies a building on İstiklal Avenue that traces its origin to a former hospital established in the early eighteenth century. Known historically as the Hôpital Saint-Louis, this site was rebuilt between eighteen ninety-three and eighteen ninety-six based on designs by the architect Pierre-Juste Bourmancé. The consulate has operated from these grounds near Taksim Square since the nineteen thirties, maintaining a presence in the heart of the Beyoğlu district.
