Britons Protection

The Britons Protection sits on the corner of Great Bridgewater Street and Albion Street, marked by its modest, dark brick facade and a history that stretches back to the early nineteenth century. This pub is one of only three buildings remaining in the city center that stood near the site of the Peterloo Massacre in eighteen nineteen. Local accounts suggest that as soldiers moved against the crowds protesting for democracy, some of the injured were brought inside this very building for refuge.
