Albert Memorial

The Albert Memorial is a Gothic Revival structure featuring an elaborate stone canopy that shelters a nine-foot marble statue of Prince Albert. This monument stands in Albert Square, a public space created specifically to house the memorial after the Prince Consort died in eighteen sixty-one. Designed by architect Thomas Worthington, the canopy is modeled after the church of Santa Maria della Spina in Pisa and protects the statue sculpted by Matthew Noble.
