Emmeline Pankhurst Statue

The bronze statue of Emmeline Pankhurst, officially titled Rise Up Women, stands in Saint Peter's Square depicting the suffragette leader balanced atop a household chair. With her arm outstretched, she gestures toward the nearby Free Trade Hall, where she held her first meetings for the Women's Social and Political Union. Sculptor Hazel Reeves designed the figure and the surrounding Portland stone meeting circle to honor the Manchester-born activist who led the fight for women's right to vote.
