Manchester Cathedral is distinguished by its exceptionally wide nave, the broadest of any medieval church in England. This Gothic structure, constructed from weathered red sandstone, sits at the heart of the city’s Medieval Quarter. While its history of Christian worship on this site stretches back over a millennium, the building took much of its current form starting in fourteen twenty-one, when it was elevated from a parish church to a collegiate church by royal charter.
