People's History Museum

The People’s History Museum is marked by the contrast of its architecture, blending a historic Victorian hydraulic pumping station with a modern extension wrapped in weathered, rusty-red Cor-Ten steel. Located on the Left Bank of the River Irwell, this building houses the national collection of the United Kingdom’s democracy and working-class history. The site was chosen because Manchester itself was a center for political movements like the Peterloo Massacre and the birth of the co-operative movement.
