Free Trade Hall

The Free Trade Hall on Peter Street is defined by its ornate, two-story Italian palazzo facade, featuring nine bays of arched windows and detailed stone carvings depicting figures of commerce and industry. Built between eighteen fifty-three and eighteen fifty-six to a design by Edward Walters, the structure stands on the site of the eighteen nineteen Peterloo Massacre, where cavalry charged a crowd of thousands who had gathered to demand parliamentary reform.
