The Peveril of the Peak

The Peveril of the Peak is immediately recognizable for its bright, emerald-green ceramic tiles that wrap around its entire exterior. Standing on a small, triangular island where Chepstow Street meets Great Bridgewater Street, the building appears isolated today, surrounded by much taller, modern office blocks that replaced the dense terraces and factories once common to this part of Manchester. Built around eighteen-twenty, the pub was remodeled in the early nineteen-hundreds, which is when it received its distinctive tile cladding and stained glass windows.
