Finnieston Crane

The Finnieston Crane is a giant, lattice-structured tower rising fifty-three meters above the banks of the River Clyde. It is a massive cantilever crane, one of only eleven of its kind left in the world, and it was designed specifically to hoist heavy freight, such as steam locomotives, onto cargo ships for global export. Built in nineteen thirty-one and entering service the following year, the crane stood as a crucial component of Glasgow’s industrial docks, connecting the city’s inland locomotive works to the international shipping lanes of the British Empire.
