King's Theatre

The King’s Theatre occupies the corner of Bath Street and Elmbank Street, distinguished by its polished red sandstone facade and a curving, domed angle bay. Designed by architect Frank Matcham and opened in nineteen oh four, this Edwardian Baroque structure was commissioned by the Howard and Wyndham company to serve as a sister venue to the city's Theatre Royal. Inside, the auditorium is famous for its cantilevered horseshoe balconies, an innovative design choice intended to provide an unobstructed view of the stage for every patron.
