The Briggait is defined by its ornate French Renaissance facade on Clyde Street, which features arches flanked by coupled columns and intricate sculptures of winged sea horses. This complex, now a grade A listed building, served as Glasgow’s wholesale fish market for over a century. It opened in eighteen seventy-three, designed by the architects Clarke and Bell to provide a sanitary, city-funded space for traders.
