Barrowland Ballroom

The Barrowland Ballroom is defined by a massive, animated neon sign that flashes bright colors across the Gallowgate, serving as a beacon for the East End of Glasgow. First opened in nineteen thirty-four by Margaret McIver, a local entrepreneur known as the Barras Queen, the venue sits above the historic Barras market. The original structure was destroyed by a fire in nineteen fifty-eight, but the McIver family rebuilt it, and the current hall opened on Christmas Eve in nineteen sixty.
