The bronze statue of Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington, sits atop a horse named Copenhagen, mounted on a plinth of Peterhead granite. Sculpted by the Italian-born artist Carlo Marochetti, it was unveiled in eighteen forty-four to commemorate the end of the Napoleonic Wars. You can identify the monument by its location in front of the Gallery of Modern Art, where the Duke is depicted in his field marshal uniform.
