The John Knox Monument stands atop a fifty-eight-foot sandstone Doric column at the highest point of the Glasgow Necropolis. A twelve-foot statue of the Scottish reformer crowns the structure, depicting him in a Geneva gown with his right arm extended and a Bible in his hand. Carved by the self-taught sculptor Robert Forrest, the monument was erected in eighteen twenty-five, making it the first statue of John Knox ever built in Scotland.
