In two thousand seventeen, Glasgow commissioned three massive, fifty-foot portraits to mark the seventy-fifth birthday of the comedian Billy Connolly. These murals were spread across the city center, transforming gable ends into tributes to the man often called the Big Yin. One of the most prominent was a recreation of a portrait by the artist John Byrne, which showed Connolly with a sign draped across his chest reading seventy-five BC, twenty-seventeen AD.
